The Strategic Co-ordination Unit supports the Councils working jointly in the West Cumbria Partnership to develop and monitor the Community Strategy for West Cumbria, involving all sectors of the community in the process. Its mission is to provide quality support services for policy development, performance management of outcomes, learning, communication, information, and administration, which represent value for money.
It also acts as the secretariat for the Partnership.
The Unit is managed by the Partnership Co-ordinator who is accountable for the delivery of a Service Agreement made between the Councils each year. Oversight of the Unit is by the Leadership Committee which agrees the annual Service Agreement for the Unit. The principal adviser to the West Cumbria Partnership on policy and strategy; ensuring that the Sustainable Community Strategy is developed and implementation co-ordinated; ensuring that all sectors of the community are involved in the work of the Partnership; ensuring outcomes are reviewed and implementation is performance managed; representing the Partnership regionally and nationally; and managing the Strategic Co-ordination Unit.

Performance Officer - Steve Hill
Co-ordinating performance management of Sustainable Community Strategy outcomes; setting up and maintaining systems and communication routes to ensure that performance analysis and supporting information is available regularly to the Partnership, the Forum, and its Review Groups; providing advice and guidance to bodies implementing the Strategy on the use of performance indicators, outcome assessment, and monitoring arrangements.

Policy and Information Officer - Position currently vacant
Co-ordinating the work of the LSP (Partnership Forum and its sub-groups); supporting involvement by “representatives of local persons” in its work in contributing to the development / review / revision of the Sustainable Communities Strategy; liaising with Policy and Overview & Scrutiny staff of the Councils to co-ordinate programmes of strategy/policy development and review of outcomes; organising information and policy briefings; managing the Units' communications systems. This post is the "LSP Co-ordinator".
Support Officer - Lisa Young
Clerk to meetings of the Forum and other Groups; managing the Units administrative systems; operating Co-ordination Unit office administrative systems; arranging meetings, compiling agendas, taking minutes, distributing papers and circulating reports; maintaining databases; and ensuring that regular monitoring reports are made promptly; contributing to arrangements for special events, and presentations; maintaining the calendar of meetings, events and activities; providing administrative support to the Chair of the Partnership and of the Forum.
